Reliable Detection of HDV RNA Independent of the Genotype

چکیده
Introduction Hepatitis Delta Virus (HDV) infection is considered to be the most severe hepatic disease; worldwide more than 15 million people are co-infected. Determining HDV RNA is important to distinguish an active from a non-active infection. HDV RNA is the marker of active HDV infection and can guide the clinician on his recommendation of therapy. Interferon-alpha is currently the only available treatment option leading to suppression of HDV RNA in 25 % 30 % of patients [1]. However, pegylated interferon therapy is sometimes associated with severe side effects and only a minority of patients are eligible for treatment. Novel alternative treatment options are currently in early clinical trials.

Determination of Hepatitis Delta Virus Genotype among HBV Carriers in Southwest of Iran
Background and Aims: HDV is a defective satellite virus and classified in genus Deltavirus. Its disease is related and limited to HBV-infected patients. Acute infection of delta agent occurs in two different patterns simultaneous infection with both HBV & HDV or super infection of chronically HBV infected patients that lead to more sever type of hepatitis. According to genetic diversity of geno...
متن کاملDetection and Genotyping of Hepatitis D Virus from HBsAg Positive Patients in Iran Using RT-PCR
Hepatitis Delta virus (HDV) is a degenerate RNA virus or virusoid and a satellite of Hepatitis B virus (HBV). Three distinct genotypes are described for HDV; genotype I is distributed worldwide but other genotypes appear to be more restricted geographically. In the present study, an RT-nested PCR method was set up to detect delta infection from serum samples. Moreover, the target amplified sequ...

Introduction: Hepatitis D virus (HDV) is a 35 nm in diameter agent that depends on hepatitis B surface antigen in order to proliferate and accumulate. Infection with delta agent can occur spontaneously with hepatitis B virus infection and it cause acute hepatitis or develop as secondary infection in the patients with hepatitis B. Hepatitis D virus (HDV) has several genotypes based on genome seq...
متن کاملMolecular detection of hepatitis delta virus in blood donors with RT-PCR
Abstract Background and Objective: Hepatitis delta virus is an imperfect virus with RNA and its activity depends on the presence of hepatitis B virus. This virus can lead to acute and chronic diseases in the liver. This study aimed to detect the hepatitis delta virus in blood donors with positive Hepatitis B Surface Antigens (HBsAg). Material and Methods: In this Study, 350 serum sa...
متن کاملRNA recombination of hepatitis delta virus in natural mixed-genotype infection and transfected cultured cells.
Most RNA viruses encode their own RNA polymerases for genome replication, and increasing numbers of them appear to be capable of undergoing RNA recombination. Here, we provide the first report of intergenotypic recombination in hepatitis delta virus (HDV), the only animal RNA virus that requires host RNA polymerase(s) for viral replication. In vivo, we analyzed RNA species derived from the seru...
